Bump! Thump! Bump!

“Whoa.” George rubbed his rear end as the school bus hit another pothole.

Alex groaned. “It’s like being on a bad roller coaster. I hope we get to the museum soon.”

“At my—” George was about to say how at his old school they took nice buses with seats that reclined and bathrooms in the back. But he stopped himself the minute he saw Louie staring at him.

“What were you going to say?” Louie asked him.

George shook his head. “Nothing. I wasn’t going to say anything.”

Louie frowned, which made George smile for the first time that day. He was in a rotten mood. It had taken him three hours to rake the leaves yesterday, and after that his dad had still made him do his regular chores like taking out all the trash. His arms and legs were really sore. Yesterday’s super burp had really been a pain.

“What if I burp at the museum?” George said quietly to Alex.

“Maybe we should come up with a signal,” Alex suggested. “So if you feel like the you-know-what is about to come out, I can grab you and take you into the bathroom or some other place where you can’t get in any trouble. I’ll stick close by you.”

George wasn’t sure there was any place where the super burp couldn’t get him into trouble. But it was worth a try.
